Emotions are the source of all pain and suffering.
Yet without feeling, there is no healing.
Not if you really want to get to the root of the problem.
This is the only way to create lasting transformation.
Emotions are an intricate part of life. It's what makes your earthly experience rich, colorful, and vibrant. Without them you'd be nothing more than a robot. You wouldn't know joy, love, or laughter, you also wouldn't know hurt, pain, and suffering.
As complex as the brain is, the emotional body has time and time again proven far more difficult to master. Considering its role it is easily the most neglected, misunderstood, and misrepresented aspect of our being.
Lets face it, negative emotions are challenging to deal with. They are often associated with pain, suffering, trauma, and abuse. However, it's essential to understand that emotions aren't the problem.
Emotions are not the cause of your problems; instead, they are merely the expression of your reaction to something that is unresolved and trying to work its way out of you.
Read that line again... very carefully.
When emotions are repressed, or not expressed, they get stored in the body waiting to be released some day. Holding on to the emotion causes distress and constriction which harms the body over time.
In other words, emotions are critical to your well-being and they directly impact all other aspects of your experience – the spiritual, the mental, and the physical. More on that later.
Emotions can best be illustrated and understood as Energy-in-MOTION. E-MOTION.
When we begin see emotions as energy then we can easily move beyond the complex explanations and marvel at their importance and understand why they hold the key to many of the problems we face as human beings.
Emotions are NOT just chemical reactions. They are also NOT just a response to external stimuli or thoughts. That is what psychology and the mindset movement would like you to believe.
Yet never before in history have we had so many people dealing with anxiety, depression, and so many mental health issues. While it is true that our world is more stressful to live in than ever before you also don't have to deal with a saber tooth tiger wanting to eat you either. So it is all relative.
If you think of a newborn baby, they know only love. That is your natural state. All emotions other than 'unconditional' love is self-generated and introduced into your body by either an immediate response to something that is occuring, or it is triggered by past repressed emotions. It is as simple as that... well, sort of.
This is where it gets muddy. Because physiologically, there is a lot going on. But what is or is not happening physiologically cannot be used to negate or invalidate the emotion and prevent it from getting expressed and thereby released.
As an example. Someone insults you. You could react in anger, feel hurt and offended, or you could shrug it off. Your reaction is determined by the triggers that are already inside of you. It could be that you were insulted before, or it could be that the feeling is related to how insignificant you feel, or that you're not loveable, or that... you see the point?
The reason can be difficult to get at. But if you just feel the emotion, you're also helping to release the thoughts and negative associations to the memory itself. It is NOT about removing the trigger. It is about releasing the emotions behind reaction. They are two VERY different things.
From early childhood, we are often discouraged from expressing our emotions. Boys are taught that crying is a sign of weakness, and women are often chastised for their emotionality.
This repression, as stated earlier, can lead to a life devoid of the color and dimension, because in order to cope with trauma and painful emotions, we build up walls and barriers. This is what I call the 'zombie apocalypse' which is already upon us.
This is further compounded by people being prescribed medications to suppress emotions rather then being taught that it is okay to feel. It is normal, it is natural, and it can be released by reframing your reality along with a healthy emotional release.
All addictions are coping mechanisms to not feel something inside of you. The dopamine gives you temporary relief but ultimately also adds to the distress and can lead to behaviors that would not otherwise occur. This avoidance can lead to a life tainted by negative self-beliefs and narratives.
When it comes to the emotional body, you are living in the past. You are letting the past dictate your future. So it is imperative that you do whatever it takes to release and let go of the emotions so that you can move forward with your life.
Over years, this trapped energy, which are blocks, leading to various diseases, health issues, and more. Yes, the mental body has a lot to do with it, but it is the emotional body that gives it fuel and energy and therefore power and influence.
Emotions play a crucial role in healing and transformation. They form a part of the hierarchy of our existence, with the spiritual body at the top, followed by the emotional body, the mental body, and finally, the physical body.
Working on the mindset can help to some extent with the physical body, but it does not address the emotional body. Many healing modalities and techniques, even those that acknowledge the emotional body, often underplay its significance, and never actually allows for the true release of the energy behind it. This leads to slow progress in healing and transformation.
This is achieved by diving into the emotions, feeling them, and allowing them to dissipate. Once all the negative emotions have dissipated, the individual can live a life free from the trauma and abuse that was associated with these emotions and the original negative experience.
Emotions are a vital part of our existence. They add color and dimension to our lives, making our earthly experience real. It is not an easy topic to approach yet the solution is simple. Feeling is healing. Denying is dying. It's essential to understand that emotions are just energy in motion. If it is not moving is harming.
